The Sumter County Library recently announced it has been awarded a grant to host The Big Read. Managed by Arts Midwest, The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment.

The South Carolina Workforce Investment Board has selected the Florence County Library System (FCLS) as the state's Outstanding Workforce Partner in recognition of their partnership with the Pee Dee Workforce Investment Board (WIB).
Oconee Library Volunteer Honored by Governor
Ann Rogers, a longtime volunteer with the Oconee County Public Library, was presented with a South Carolina Governor's Volunteer Award in Columbia for her work with the South Carolina Room at the Walhalla Library. She previously won the Sarah Mills Norton Award for Volunteer Service at the library's recent Volunteer Week dinner.

The South Carolina State Library is proud to announce award winning authors Peter Brown and Will Hillenbrand will be featured at StoryfestSC 2013--the state's summer reading program kick-off event. Families from across the state will be able to celebrate the 2013 Collaborative Summer Library Theme Dig into Reading! at a free event for families held at the State Museum in Columbia on June 1, 2013.
South Carolina 2013 Teen Video Challenge Winner Announced
The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) announced the winners of the 2013 Teen Video Challenge. The Teen Video Challenge is a national competition for teens to get involved with reading and their public library's summer reading program. Winning videos were selected at the state level to be recognized as an official CSLP Teen Video Challenge winner for 2013.
