Free Legislative Research Webinars Announced

The South Carolina State Library is pleased to offer a new series of five free 30-minute webinars on Legislative Research.  This series of webinars will look at resources to find and track legislation for South Carolina and the U.S. using scstatehouse.gov, congress.gov and FdSys. We’ll also look at resources for locating county and city administrative contacts, and using Discus – South Carolina’s Virtual Library resources to keep up with news.

Free Grants Classes Announced - Spring 2015

The South Carolina State Library is pleased to offer two popular grants research and proposal writing classes: 

Grants Research: Finding a Funder for Your Nonprofit Organization.  This class helps individuals working with nonprofit organizations locate information on grants available from private foundations and corporations using the South Carolina State Library’s electronic and print resources.  Sessions run from 9:30 a.m. to noon and are offered on two different dates:

Riley elected president-elect of Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries

Ruth Riley, assistant dean for executive affairs and director of library services, was elected president-elect of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) at the November meeting of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in Chicago. AAHSL members include 158 health sciences libraries on campuses in the United States, Canada and overseas.

Laurens County Public Library Launches 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program

Laurens County Public Library announces the launch of their 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. The Laurens County Public Library will partner with First Steps in Laurens County to offer this fun and exciting reading program for children ages 0-5 years. This program was developed to increase awareness of the importance of reading to very young children as well as to encourage each parent to embrace being the child’s first teacher.
