A group of students from Rock Hill's Richmond Drive Elementary School got a very special surprise on Wednesday, May 23, as part of their visit to the York County Library. They met Cocky, the University of South Carolina's mascot, who brought his Reading Express to Rock Hill to emphasize the importance of reading.

The Census Bureau has released an estimate of the undercount and overcount in the 2010 Census, providing a measure of the accuracy of it. The results found that the 2010 Census had a net overcount of 0.01 percent, meaning about 36,000 people were overcounted. This compares with a net overcount of 0.49 for the 2000 Census and a net undercount of 1.61 for the 1990 Census.

The Richland County Public Library (RCPL) Foundation has received a $2,500 gift from the First Citizens Foundation to support the library's outreach efforts aimed at increasing early childhood literacy.

For one evening only, June 7, 2012, from 5:30 -8, the Laurens County Library will host the Chamber of Commerce's first ever Laurens County Tourism Fair.

There will be six stations, or booths, representing each of the six areas of tourism Laurens Chamber recognizes: Lodging, Dining, Shopping, Recreation, History, and Arts.

The Richland County Public Library is launching a new service -- the 3M Cloud Library -- that allows library customers to access 4,000 ebooks on multiple devices, including PCs, iPads, Nooks and Android operating systems. RCPL is one of 10 beta or test sites across the country for this new service.

The South Carolina State Library's Center for the Book has selected Virals, by Kathy Reichs, to represent South Carolina at the 2012 National Book Festival in Washington, DC. The book is the state's selection for the National Book Festival's "Discover Great Places Through Reading Map".
