CHICAGO – Forty-one percent of states report declining state funding for U.S. public libraries in fiscal year 2009, according to a survey of the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA) conducted by the American Library Association (ALA).

SC Center for the Book Encourages Students to Participate in the River of Words Contest
Every year, in affiliation with The Library of Congress Center for the Book, an international poetry and art contest is conducted for children in grades K-12.
River of Words (ROW), a non-profit organization, was founded in 1995 by then-US Poet Laureate Robert Hass and writer Pamela Michael.
