State Library Announces 2007 Notable State Government Documents Awards
Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina State Library is pleased to announce the selection of the most notable South Carolina state government documents of 2007. The selection is announced annually on or near Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.
New State Documents for March
During February and March the Library received some interesting and colorful documents. Here are some of the highlights:

DHEC and BCBS have produced a unique way of recording your walking habits in this colorful, attractive calendar featuring SC’s assets: CHILDREN! The calendar has full page photos of children walking for health and has space to record your own walking each day.
Sheila Morris to be Women's History Month Speaker at the Center
Columbia, SC – On March 27, 2008 from noon to 1:00 p.m., author Sheila Morris will discuss her book, Deep in the Heart: A memoir of Love and Longing, at the South Carolina Center for the Book located at the South Carolina State Library.
State Library Receives Commendation from American Association of School Librarians
Columbia, SC – The Annual Statewide Read-In coordinated by the South Carolina State Library has been formally commended by the Affiliate Assembly of the American Association of School Librarians at the Annual Conference of the American Library Association.
SC Assistive Technology Expo 2008
Are you interested in the latest assistive technology devices, equipment, gadgets, and software to help people of all ages live more independently in all areas of life? Make plans to attend the South Carolina Assistive Technology Expo 2008. This event is of interest to people with disabilities or age-related limitations, caregivers of children or parents, educators, and providers of services to people with disabilities.
Expo 2008 is the only event of its kind in the state offering more than 50 exhibits, hands-on opportunities, and twelve workshops.

IMLS Announces Results of Study on the Internet's Impact on Museums and Libraries
MIAMI, FL—Institute of Museum and Library Services Director Anne-Imelda Radice released results of InterConnections: A National Study of Users and Potential Users of Online Information March 6 at the 9th annual WebWise Conference on Libraries and Museums in the Digital World in Miami. This new report offers insight into the ways people search for information in the online age, and how this impacts the ways they interact with public libraries and museums, both online and in person.
South Carolina Center for the Book Announces Awards Program
Columbia, SC – The SC Center for the Book Awards Program (formerly the Palmetto Book Award Program) honors excellence in writing, teaching, and advocacy of the literary arts. This year, the Center seeks nominations in these three categories:
1. Writing: SC writer of any genre whose work has been published in the last year (2007)
2. Teaching: SC teacher of the literary or language arts (at any level or type of school)
Tax Forms in Alternate Formats
National Library Services has been informed by the Alternative Media Center at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that it will not produce IRS tax documents in braille for automatic distribution to libraries.
