National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15. This observance began in 1968 when President Lyndon B. Johnson established National Hispanic Heritage Week through Proclamation 3869.
President Ronald Reagan later expanded the celebration to a full 30 days with Public Law 100-402 on August 17, 1988. Since then, every president has issued an annual proclamation to honor and celebrate Hispanic heritage.
