Job Description

Clemson Libraries seeks a dynamic, driven, and collaborative eResources Discovery Librarian to ensure access to and discoverability of academic resources for the Clemson University community.

This position leads efforts related to the creation and improvement of metadata for electronic resources, including individual and package subscriptions, e-books, demand driven acquisitions, open access resources, streaming resources, and continuing resources. This position will work closely with colleagues in the departments of Metadata Services and Acquisitions and Collections in order to ensure that Clemson University Libraries maintain an accurate and accessible inventory of its substantial collection of electronic resources, including work related to batch loads, data normalization, and other bibliographic maintenance needs.

Clemson Libraries migrated to Alma/Primo VE in June 2020 and is part of a statewide Network Zone that includes 54 other institutions in the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL) consortium.

Clemson Libraries faculty are members of the academic community, with responsibilities in the areas of librarianship, scholarship, and service. This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty position and works under the direction of the Head of Metadata Services within the Collections and Discovery division.


Responsibilities include:

  • Creates and maintains a comprehensive inventory of Clemson’s electronic collections.
  • Ensures timely activation and discoverability of newly purchased or added electronic resources, including open access resources.
  • Produces original and complex copy cataloging in a variety of formats for the library collections as needed.
  • Creates and utilizes import profiles in ExLibris Alma for large batches of bibliographic records.
  • Performs quality control on eresource metadata.
  • Develops innovative solutions to improve the discoverability of resources.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across divisions to improve user experience with regards to electronic resources.
  • Serves on the Discovery Cross Functional Team.
  • Oversees and participates in regular maintenance of electronic resources, including impacts from updated subscription packages.
  • May supervise staff as needed.
  • Participates in other metadata and cataloging projects as needed.

  • Actively participates and demonstrates leadership in professional responsibilities that serve the Libraries, university, profession, and community.


Salary and Benefits 

Faculty rank and minimum salary of $62,000 based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Various medical plans, dental plans, and retirement plans are available. 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave are provided. Library faculty receive an individual stipend for travel or other professional development activity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • An ALA-accredited graduate degree in librarianship
  • Demonstrated commitment to the promotion and enhancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • 1 year of experience with electronic resources management in an academic library.

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Experience with Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE.
  • Knowledge of current descriptive and subject cataloging practices such as RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC, MARC21 formats and authority control, and quality control tools such as MarcEdit.
  • Cataloging and metadata experience.
  • Experience working with publishers and/or vendors of electronic resources.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working as part of a consortia.
