Job Description

Clemson University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Strategic Assessment Librarian. This position works in a collaborative library environment to plan, promote, and sustain a culture of assessment across the Libraries and articulate the value of academic library services. This is a 12-month tenure track position.

The Strategic Assessment Librarian assumes a leadership role in planning, implementing, and sustaining an assessment program for Clemson University Libraries. The librarian will identify and assess meaningful organizational performance indicators for improvement, including establishing procedures and monitoring all reporting mechanisms.

The individual will lead strategic assessment across all divisions and work closely with department heads and librarians to pursue data-driven insight on library operations and user experiences, including collections, facilities, instruction, and library technology. Designs an assessment program that informs library strategic planning and aligns with the university’s mission and planning. This position works closely with the library’s Strategic Directions Facilitator to ensure alignment with the library’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities include:

Administering and designing custom assessment instruments, such as surveys, focus groups, interviews, rubrics, balanced scorecards, and internal data collection forms.
Completing required reporting such as IPEDS, SACSCOC, etc.
Compiling data and crafting presentations to demonstrate the library's value to stakeholders, internally and externally.
Engaging in professional development, such as attending conferences, workshops, and webinars related to job functions.
Participating in campus planning and assessment committees and integrating with the university data system,
Collaborating with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness at Clemson to ensure alignment with university assessment.
Communicating and collaborating with related organizations such as ASERL, ARL, ITHAKA S R, etc., for assessment and benchmarking activities
Serving as liaison to the Office of Institutional Research

Salary

Minimum salary of $70,000 based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

An ALA-accredited graduate degree in librarianship or a relevant accredited graduate degree in another scholarly field as deemed appropriate by the Libraries
At least two years of post-MLS/MLIS experience as an assessment librarian or coordinator
Proven record of conducting library assessment projects and applying research methods (i.e., qualitative and quantitative research design methods)
Demonstrated knowledge of processes and software tools for collecting, analyzing, reporting and visualizing data
Experience creating custom dashboards, or significant experience in Tableau or other data visualization platforms.
Ability to work independently and as a team member to solve problems, using sound judgment in decision-making according to an established timeframe.
Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of project management applications such as Jira
Experience submitting grant proposals and the IRB process.
Knowledge of accreditation standards and academic library programs, and other similar reports for academic libraries.
Demonstrated ability utilizing software for data organization and analysis (e.g., Excel, Access, SPSS, or NVivo)
