Reports To:  Branch Manager

General Summary:

The Youth Services Manager, under the general direction of the Branch Manager, will work collaboratively with the Supervisory Librarians of both the Children’s and Teen Departments to set the vision for the Youth Services Department and ensure that Youth Services has the means to follow that vision. The ideal candidate must demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, as a great part of this job will involve interacting with the local community.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

Coordinate the activities of the Children’s and Teen Departments to align with the vision of the Youth Services Department.
Oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the Youth Services Department.
Coordinate with Supervisory Librarians to maintain adequate staffing at all service points in accordance with CCPL scheduling guidelines.
Oversee the development, planning, implementation of programming and outreach for the Youth Services Department.
Coordinates with Human Resources, Branch Manager and Supervisory Librarians on staffing, hiring, training and employee issues. 
Oversee department budget, allocating funds for programming and materials.  
Oversee collection development and maintenance, including recommending materials for acquisition and withdrawal in consultation with Supervisory librarians and LCATS representatives.
Oversee the implementation and interpretation of CCPL policies and procedure.  
Oversee the coordination of content concerning Youth Services and materials to the Communications and Programming Department for inclusion in the library’s social media presence.
Collect and report weekly/monthly statistics for the Youth Services Department.
Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch operations, including periodic supervisory duties of the entire facility.
Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities and scheduling requirements as needed to meet the coverage needs of the public service desks in other departments.
Keep informed of current services and trends related to public libraries.
Knowledge and appreciation of children’s and young adult literature.
Candidates should be good listeners and communicators, present a positive attitude, enjoy working cooperatively as a team leader, and place top priority on both internal and external customer service.
Assist with Community Hub Services such as the rental assistance program, vaccine clinics, election voting, as well as other programs and services that are provided by CCPL.
Responsible for helping the public use technology, including software, online tools, and mobile devices.
Provide reader's advisory and information services to customers of the Youth Services Department.
Must be comfortable proactively seeking out customers to help in all areas of the library (desk, roving, e-mail, phone, or additional methods of communication).
Perform other duties as assigned.

$57,324.80 - $64,563.20 annually commensurate with education and experience.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of library amenities and the ability to provide information about library policies.
Ability to use tact, courtesy, and good judgment when communicating with coworkers and the public.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of library materials, both print and electronic.
Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas orally and in writing.
Ability to carry out assignments independently and work collaboratively with a team.
Qualifications and Requirements: 

Master of Library and Information Science degree from an ALA Accredited program.
3 years post-MLIS library experience to include 2 years supervisory experience; prefer public library experience OR appropriate degree and experience for non-MLIS professional positions.
Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library Certification. 
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to learn and use new methods and emerging technical advances.
Must possess excellent customer service skills, ability to get along well with others and to communicate effectively with the public and with library staff.
