Under the general direction of the Regional Director, the Branch Manager: Manages and coordinate activities of branch operations: develops short and long-range goals and objectives; oversees the library’s circulation functions, and meeting room/computer lab functions; develops and improves strategies to enhance delivery of services and programs to library patrons.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures; and conducts staff meetings as necessary; makes hiring and disciplinary recommendations; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals/reviews.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet departmental objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; provides progress and activity reports to management; Performs other duties as assigned.
Must possess excellent customer service skills, ability to get along well with others and to communicate effectively with the public and with library staff, and a strong work ethic.
Maintains a current knowledge of trends in the profession, maintains an awareness of new technologies, reads various professional literature; attends conferences, workshops, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities as appropriate.
Schedule
Position is full time, 35-hour week, Monday-Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM. Employees may be required to adapt to future schedules and location changes depending on library needs. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some Saturdays.

Minimum Education, Training & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Supervisory or leadership experience
• Must possess valid SC driver’s license.
• Other combination of experience and training may be substituted.

Preferred Education
• Master’s Degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited college or university.

Skills/Abilities
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Ability to learn, and enforce library policies, procedures, and regulations to patrons and employees.
• Ability to supervise and direct the work of others and provide coaching, training, and
disciplinary actions as needed.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of customer records, uses of library resources and services, as well as security related incidents and personnel issues.
• Ability to learn the Library’s online system used to manage library processes.
• Ability to learn, implement, and maintain complex filing systems including the Dewey Decimal System with a high level of accuracy.
• Ability to plan, organize, and direct activities of a branch library.
• Ability to deal with difficult individuals and unusual situations with tact and diplomacy.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
Physical requirements include ability to stoop, twist, turn and move materials in the library; ability to lift moderate weight up to 30 pounds in the handling of library materials; ability to push carts, bins and book trucks loaded with library materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
