Description
The purpose of this position is to assist the Library Director in planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the activities and operations of the Oconee County Public Library, particularly in adult programming and services. The incumbent will supervise and support library programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, or service offerings, including Little Free Libraries and other community initiatives. They will manage and supervise system wide staff training; assist with marketing and promoting library programs and services; and provide supervision to employees and staff in the absence of the Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Evaluate, create and promote adult library services and programs based on community needs.
2. Collaborate with other library staff in planning, organizing, implementing, directing, and evaluating external services and events.
3. Create press releases to promote library services and events.
4. Research and write grants to aid in providing needed services to the library.
5. Responsible for providing innovative programming (virtual and in-person) for adults and coordinating large scale, library-wide events. Coordinate with the Youth Services department in children’s events.
7. Assist with and lead major programs involving multiple library departments (adult summer reading, national library card sign-up month, national library week, etc.) and major community events (festivals).
6. Participate in committees and/or organizations that support the library’s mission and goals.
7. Develop positive relationships with civic and community organizations, Library Board, and Friends of the Library.
8. Evaluate adult programs offered, track attendance statistics, and recommend changes or additions as needed based on community needs and current trends.
9. Create, plan and implement employee training procedures, employee on-boarding, and orientation.
10. Assist with developing and maintaining volunteer training and recruitment.
11. Manage user statistics on current library materials and research new options to make improvements. Manage bi-monthly reports for Board of Trustees and annual report for State Library.
12. Keep current on trends, developments, and issues in librarianship.
13. Participate in professional organizations, training sessions, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.
14. Keep the Director informed of all issues and concerns.
15. Prepare and submit reports as required. Coordinate with managers to create bi-monthly reports.

Additional duties include:
Work scheduled time at customer service desk. Answer reference inquiries and assist patrons with other concerns. Drive library vehicles, courier vans, and bookmobiles. Work at assigned branches in times of staffing shortages. Able to work closings, weekends and outreach hours.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The educational requirement for this position is: Completion of Master's degree in Library Science
Education may be substituted for experience.
Related-experience required: 2-3 years.
