It has been a meeting of literary and innovative minds. More than 300 people from 28 counties traveled to Denmark to participate in the Next Library Festival 2015 from September 12 - 15, including Richland Library Executive Director Melanie Huggins.
Hearing odd howls in the night? Are large carnivores darting across your lawn? Is something strange lurking outside? Laurens County has certainly changed over the years, and one of those changes is the increase in our coyote population. The Laurens County Library has invited DNR Wildlife Biologist Jay Butfiloski to visit the library at 6:30 p.m. on October 1 to explain the facts about this interesting and somewhat controversial species that seems to be showing up everywhere.
Book lovers and bargain hunters are in for a real treat when the Charleston Friends of the Library host its 34th annual That BIG Book Sale, October 9-11, at the Omar Shrine Auditorium. Over 60,000 books, DVDs, CDs, books on CDs, sheet music and maps will be on sale to the public with prices starting at just $.50. For the price of one movie ticket or one new paperback book, shoppers can walk out with a basket full of books, DVDs and CDs that they can enjoy over and over again, or pass on to a friend.
The S.C. Academy of Authors (SCAA) has expanded its annual award competitions to include a separate category for student writers of fiction and poetry and an increase in prize money.
