NFB 2011 Scholarship Program

Each year at its Convention in August, the NFB of SC gives a broad array of scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars.

All applicants for these scholarships must be:

  • Legally blind,
  • Residents of South Carolina or attending a college or university in South Carolina
  • Enrolled in or plan to enroll in a post-secondary course of study.

State Library Publishes Social Media Report

The South Carolina State Library has recently published a report titled, Social Media, Libraries, and Web 2.0: How American Libraries are Using New Tools for Public Relations and to Attract New Users. The report provides quantitative and qualitative data gathered from library staff members in the U.S. to determine how libraries are employing a variety of Web 2.0 and social networking tools to promote library programs and services.

IRS provides assistance for people with disabilities

Hundreds of the most popular federal tax forms and publications are available for download from IRS.gov for sight impaired individuals. These products range from talking tax forms to Braille formats, and are accessible using screen reading software, refreshable Braille displays and voice recognition software. National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped to Celebrate Its 80th Anniversary

On March 3, 2011, the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS)--the Library of Congress' talking-book and Braille program--will celebrate 80 years of helping visually impaired and physically handicapped individuals enjoy reading their favorite books and magazines.
