The Graphic Designer performs various duties for departments throughout the South Carolina State Library. This position will coordinate design, printing, layout, and artwork for newsletters, brochures, booklets, and educational materials for the agency.
The Graphic Designer will conduct a range of tasks with responsibilities which may include:
• Conceptualize, design, and develop graphics, typography, and layout for printed materials
• Apply current and emerging graphic design trends
• Successfully communicate conceptual ideas and design rationales visually, verbally, and in writing, with user advocacy a constant priority
• Coordinate agency’s editorial committee and provide copy editing and proofreading skills on internal and external documents
• Collaborate internally and externally regarding graphic design
• Centralize all graphic design efforts of the agency divisions and departments
• Troubleshoot related design issues with users
• Work closely with agency’s Web Developer to develop website content, such as written copy, graphics, video, and audio for agency websites
• Designs and implements training opportunities for internal and external customers
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
• An associate degree in art and experience in graphics software programs, prefer a bachelor’s degree in media arts or related area
• Knowledge of principles, procedures, and methods of graphic arts
• Knowledge of the methods and techniques involved in layout, graphic art work, design, and print processes
• Ability to evaluate photos and art of the accurate display of editorial content
• Ability to design and construct exhibits and displays for educational programs
• Excellent design/creativity skills and motion graphics design and production
• Familiarity with video editing and/or video creation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated understanding and/or working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, and related products

- Starting salary range $33,494 - $40,000 depending on experience.
