Work Hours:
20 hours weekly (flexible schedule)
Sundays: 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. (rotating)
Monday – Thursday: Flexible hours between 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Friday: Flexible hours between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or Saturday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Salary: Competitive Hourly Rate
Reports To: Coordinator of Archives and Institutional Records, under Library Director Leadership
Position Summary:
The Archives Assistant will use standard archival practices to research, identify, and describe archival materials for digitization. Responsibilities include digitizing materials, assisting with research inquiries, monitoring the reading room, and working a rotating schedule at the library's service desk on Sundays. Training provided in general library and archival operations and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
• Conducts research to identify archival materials.
• Provides descriptive information for archival materials.
• Prepares and digitize records.
• Creates database records using metadata standards.
• Supervises student assistants.
• Monitors reading room users.
• Provides customer service at library’s service desk.
• Maintains facilities operations independently.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Ideal for:
Current or recent student.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate degree or equivalent credit hours.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
• Strong organizational, time management skills, and communication skills,
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
• Ability to excise good judgment and decision making.
• Physical ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and push/pull loaded book cart.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with digital scanning and procedures.
• Experience with metadata standards.
• Knowledge of, or interest, in history and archives.
