The South Carolina Office of Resilience, a new agency created by the passing of the 2020 Disaster Relief and Resilience Act, provides an overview of their work in Lessening the Impact of Disasters on the Communities and Citizens of South Carolina by Planning and Coordinating Statewide Resilience, Long Term Recovery and Hazard Mitigation. The South Carolina Office of Resilience exists to increase resilience to disasters and reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of loss of life, injury, damage to and loss of property, and suffering and hardship, by lessening the impact of future disasters. Their plan identifies major flood risks around the state and potential losses that could occur as a result of extreme weather events. It also provides strategies for local governments to implement resilience into their communities in order to mitigate potential flood risks. The informational value of this publication makes it our choice for the August 2024 featured state publication.

The complete list of August electronic South Carolina state publications is available. The South Carolina Digital State Documents Depository provides electronic access to state agency publications. These publications provide citizens with crucial information about state government and include statistics, reports, and data on a wide variety of topics related to the state.
