York County Library Announces 2012 Employee of the Year

Mary Mallaney has been named the York County Library's Employee of the Year for 2012. Mary was selected based on her dedication to the library and her outstanding customer service, both to library patrons and other staff.

A reference and local history librarian at the headquarters library in Rock Hill, Mary has worked for the York County Library since September 1973. She has done some of almost everything in her nearly 40-year career: circulation, shelving, reference, new book processing, mending, holds, overdues, magazines, genealogy and Interlibrary Loans. She has even been drafted to drive two different Bookmobiles over the years as a substitute driver.

Mary notes that the advent of computers, online catalogs, databases and the internet has changed all facets of library work. The changes have made it better for staff and patrons, providing more resources, more information and quicker delivery of that information.

Mary considers libraries to be one of a community's greatest assets, and she never misses an opportunity to promote library services. She says, "I still LOVE working with patrons who are shocked at how much we can teach them and how helpful their library and librarians can be."
