Position Description Summary:

The Acquisitions Librarian is responsible for a wide range of collection development activities related to the purchase and receipt of library resources in various formats, particularly electronic. The Acquisitions Librarian works collegially with faculty across the College’s academic disciplines, as well as with the librarians, to acquire library resources that are adequate and appropriate to support courses and programs offered as well as for its user community to conduct research. The Acquisitions Librarian controls the expenditure of material funds allocations within the constraints of an approved budget, under the leadership of the Library Director. Acquisitions Librarian performs other duties as assigned to advance the strategic goals of the library in connection with the strategic goals of the College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Oversees daily acquisitions operation, including coordinating workflow related to ordering, receiving, and claiming library materials; tracks expenditures and purchase orders as needed.
•    Coordinates the selection of library materials collaboratively with faculty and coordinates collection development internally with librarians.
•    Serves as a liaison to selected academic departments/programs.
•    Ensures good working relationships with Accounts Payable and addresses internal and external accounting issues as needed.
•    Monitors the collection budget, including assisting with reconciling campus accounting with internal library accounting.
•    Establishes and ensures good working relationships with vendors; addresses vendor issues involving orders, receipts, and/or payments.
•    Prepares and submits online requisitions and budgetary reports on expenditures.
•    Accepts, acknowledges, evaluates, and processes gift materials and collections.
•    Participates in scheduled weeding of collections with librarians, as deemed necessary. 
•    Conducts library instruction, as required.
•    Assists at the library’s information services desk, as scheduled, to include rotating weekends. 
•    Maintains awareness of current and emerging acquisition trends and technologies. 
•    Participates in formulating departmental procedures; maintains and updates acquisition procedures. 
•    Submits statistical reports as needed.
•    Participates in library/college activities and/or serves on professional committees as appointed. 
•    Attends local, state, and national professional meetings.
•    Performs other related duties as assigned.


Salary:

Salary will be commensurate with degree and related work experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

•    A Master’s degree in library science (MLS) or library and information science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program is required.
•    A minimum of one-year experience in acquisition or any equivalent combination of experience/training/coursework that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
•    Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel software programs.
•    Experience with an integrated library management system (ILMS) 
•    Basic accounting knowledge.
•    Knowledge of the U.S. and foreign publishing industries. 
•    Clear and effective oral and written communication.
•    Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
•    Ability to learn intra-organization software systems.
•    Demonstrated attentiveness to details.
•    Demonstrated time management.
•    Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills.
•    Ability to exercise sound judgment.
•    Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, and move from one area to another regularly.

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Experience with collection development activities in academic libraries.
•    Experience with OCLC and an ILMS acquisitions module.
