Join us from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, for this month's author talk and book signing: Lindy Lee: Songs on Mill Hill by Kimberly J. Simms. In her debut book of poems, Southern story-teller, Kimberly J. Simms, chronicles the lives of textile workers in the Carolinas with historical accuracy and imaginative insight. Part history, part poetry, this collection also includes rarely seen photography of Lewis Hine.

Marcus Amaker to visit Irmo Branch Library in May

Charleston, SC’s first Poet Laureate, Marcus Amaker, will visit the Irmo Branch Library on May 11, 2018 and will read selections from his latest project, empath, starting at 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served at 6:00 p.m. along with music by a jazz vibraphone musician in our café style setting. empath is much more than a boo. It is also a custom journal and a poetry & jazz album. Vinyl, CDs, the journal and book will be available for purchase.

South Carolina State Library releases 2017 Notable State Documents list

Documents detailing the 2017 historic solar eclipse, a booklet discussing statewide forest recovery, and a guide providing information on holiday shopping scams were among the 10 publications that made the cut for the latest South Carolina State Library's Notable State Documents list.

This annual award is meant to call attention to the most informative documents released by state agencies in 2017. Awards will be presented to the winning agencies and authors on March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the South Carolina State Library in Columbia.
