2011 National Library Week Photo Contest Winners Announced

The South Carolina State Library is pleased to announce the winners of the Fifth Annual National Library Week 'Day in the Life of South Carolina Libraries' photo contest. During the days of April 10-16, South Carolina library staff members submitted a wide range of photographs of librarians working, teaching patrons, library events, and in some cases, just having fun doing what they love.

Senator Wes Hayes Receives FOSCL Award for Library Support

Senator Robert W. "Wes" Hayes has been selected to receive the first Outstanding Public Official Award by the Friends of South Carolina Libraries (FOSCL). FOSCL is a statewide organization that provides support to local Friends of Libraries groups.

The announcement was made at the FOSCL annual meeting on April 9 in Columbia. Senator Hayes was nominated by the Friends of the York County Library for his consistent support of public libraries.

Technology for Teens

The South Carolina State Library is partnering with the Union County Carnegie Library to bring new technology to teens. The library will host a technology petting zoo drop-in for teens on Saturday April 23, 2011, from 10:30am-12:30pm. Teens will be able to experience firsthand some cutting edge technology including iPads, Sony e-Readers, Nooks, Kindles, Flip video cameras, and much more!

Libraries Helping Job Seekers

The South Carolina State Library is offering training to libraries across the state that will help staff assist job seekers. The training, "Regional Virtual One Stop (VOS) System Training and Workshop for Libraries," shows library staff how to guide a job seeker through the online State's Virtual One Stop (VOS) system including:
