"I am writing with the news that Frank Kurt Cylke, longtime director of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), has retired from federal service effective February 28, 2011.
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy today posted an online toolkit comprised of resources to assist federal agencies in recruiting, employing and retaining individuals with disabilities. The kit is available at http://www.dol.gov/odep/federal-hire.
The South Carolina State Library will announce the selection of the most notable 2010 South Carolina State Government Documents at a ceremony to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16. The selection is announced annually on or near Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.

Martin Meek, winner of the prestigious Governors Lifetime Achievement award for Historical Preservation in 2010 will be talking about mill village preservation at the Friends of the Library annual meeting March 20 at 2:30 PM. This meeting will be held at the Laurens County Library on West Main Street in Laurens.
On February 8-10, over 150 librarians, educators, and graduate students attended three South Carolina State Library sponsored workshops presented by Rosemary Agoglia of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. Attendees learned about visually engaging young readers and the importance of inspiring children to read.
