Read-In

Read-In is SC's premier Children's Reading Event, sponsored by the South Carolina State Library and the South Carolina Association of School Librarians, that lets students show why kids who read succeed.

Please register if you’d like to join us in person or virtually. If you register for the virtual event, you will be notified via email when and where the video will be available for viewing.

Read-In Schedule

Registered student groups gather in the State Library’s parking lot at 1500 Senate Street between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The parade to the State House begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. and the route follows Senate Street to the State House. At the State House there is a brief program followed by reading in small groups. Each group is responsible for providing their own reading materials, banners, or signs. Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character and bring their favorite book to read on the State House grounds after the program. The Read-In ends at noon and buses are not permitted to leave until 12:30pm.

Registration closes the Friday before the Read-In is scheduled to take place. We will email you the registration packet the Monday before the Read-In; this packet will include all instructions and details related to the event. Should we have to cancel, we will email all registrants by 9:00am the morning before the Read-In.
