Read-In

Read-In is SC's premier Children's Reading Event that lets students show why kids who read succeed.

This exciting event provides an opportunity for students, librarians, parents and other literacy supporters to demonstrate the importance of reading and the need for library services in our communities.

Read-In Schedule

Registered student groups gather in the State Library’s parking lot at 1500 Senate Street between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The parade to the State House begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. and the route follows Senate Street to the State House. At the State House there is a brief program followed by reading in small groups. Each group is responsible for providing their own reading materials, banners, or signs. Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character and bring their favorite book to read on the State House grounds after the program. The Read-In ends at noon and buses are not permitted to leave until 12:30pm.

Registration closes the Friday before the Read-In is scheduled to take place. We will email you the registration packet the Monday before the Read-In; this packet will include all instructions and details related to the event. Should we have to cancel, we will email all registrants by 9:00am the morning before the Read-In.
