BibliObservatory Episode 3 Now Available
BibliObservatory is a podcast series that is part of the South Carolina State Library's LibraryVoicesSC podcast. In this episode, Caroline and Ivette talk with Berta Berriz. Berriz’s story is a journey that takes us to a time when she was a little girl in La Habana, Cuba, listening to her grandmother's stories, and how those stories helped her overcome later on the challenges she faced as an immigrant child in the USA.
State Library to host Talking Book Services Student Art Awards April 23, 2019
The South Carolina State Library will host a reception and awards ceremony for students, their teachers, and family members for the 2019 Talking Book Services student art exhibit on April 23, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
The Library’s Talking Book Services student art exhibit features artwork created by blind or visually impaired South Carolina students. The exhibit highlights the artistic abilities of elementary, middle, high, and homeschooled students from across the state.
Celebrate Preservation Week 2019
Celebrate National Preservation Week, April 21-27, 2019. In 2005 the first comprehensive national survey of the condition and preservation needs of the nation’s collections reported that U.S. institutions hold more than 4.8 billion items. Libraries alone hold 3 billion items (63 percent of the whole). A treasure trove of uncounted additional items is held by individuals, families, and communities.
2019 Young Minds Dreaming Poetry Contest Winners Announced
In celebration of National Poetry Month, the South Carolina State Library is pleased to announce the nine winners in this year’s Young Minds Dreaming poetry contest. These outstanding students will be honored at the South Carolina State Library in Columbia at an award ceremony and poetry celebration on Saturday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m.
