Talking Book Services Remembers

In 1960 the Telephone Pioneers of America were designated the official equipment repair group for the Library of Congress. Since then, Pioneers have repaired some two million of the special cassette and record players used by the visually impaired. We appreciate and depend on our Pioneers, especially Mr. Richard “Dick” Hawkinson. For twenty years, Dick came to the Library to repair the equipment he viewed as so valuable to those  who needed it to read their "talking" books.

Free radio PSAs now available for Library Card Signup Month in September

The American Library Association (ALA) announces the release of five new radio public service announcements (PSAs) that are now available to help libraries promote Library Card Sign-up Month in September and the library card as the “smartest card" in your wallet.

Libraries are encouraged to share the PSAs with local radio stations.

The PSAs are available in 10, 15 and 30-second MP3 formats.

Station of the Year Award

At a recent luncheon hosted by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for Richland and Lexington Counties, Talking Book Services was honored to receive the “Station of the Year” Award in recognition of the library’s commitment to volunteerism and support of RSVP as a resource to help senior citizens get involved as volunteers.
