South Carolina Sites Selected to Receive IMLS Connecting to Collections Bookshelf

Dr. Anne-Imelda Radice, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, announced that 851 museums, libraries, and archives, representing every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, have been selected to receive the IMLS Connecting to Collections Bookshelf. A blue ribbon panel of conservation experts selected the contents of the bookshelf; it includes an essential set of books, online resources, and a user's guide that can profoundly impact the ability of small libraries and museums to care for their collections.

New Documents for February

We received several catalogs, magazines, and brochures from our state colleges and universities this month.  Many of these have color photographs highlighting the assets of our schools and include facts and statistics that would be of interest to prospective students.  We also received the Governor’s Executive Budget and the detailed Budget of the General Fund, Transportation, Education Improvement Act, and Education Lottery Revenues for 2008/2009.  Other interesting state agency publications include:

Talking Book Services Library Announces Student Art Gallery

Columbia, SC – Visually impaired/blind K-12 students from across the state will soon have their artwork on display at the South Carolina State Library’s Talking Book Services Library.  According to Pamela Davenport, “The idea to display student artwork was a result of conversations with the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind and will promote and educate the public about artwork of blind and visually impaired students in South Carolina.”

The 2008 SC Book Festival will be held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC on February 22–24, 2008.

Friday, February 22nd Events: Featured workshops at various locations around the Columbia area during the day will be offered for a nominal registration fee. In the evening, join us for the annual opening night gala featuring a keynote address. More details will follow as the festival schedule develops in the coming months.
