The South Carolina State Library has developed an online guide to the US Census. The guide contains information on the history and purpose of the US Census as well as the importance of completing the Census and how to avoid Census fraud. Learn more at http://guides.statelibrary.sc.gov/2020Census. 

A South Carolina State Library eCard is available to South Carolina residents age 18 and over who do not currently have a library card. eCards are valid through the novel coronavirus COVID-19 shutdown and provide access to online resources such as Safari Books, ProQuest Ebook Central, and NewsBank: America’s Newspapers. Qualified applicants will be emailed an eCard number and temporary PIN after the application is processed. eCard requests will be processed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Most requests will be filled in about 24 hours.

As Federal depository library and the official state depository for all state publications , our library is your source for government documents. We stay in touch with the latest news and collect print and digital publications from South Carolina state agencies and the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO). GPO distributes Federal publications through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), and makes that information available to you.

The South Carolina State Library now offers Tutor.com through Discus - South Carolina's Virtual Library.

The South Carolina State Library has been monitoring the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 (now pandemic) and is working closely with our partners and event organizers to help manage its impact on our library community statewide.

SCLENDS, which stands for “South Carolina Library Evergreen Network Delivery System," is a consortium of 20 county libraries and the State Library that shares resources and circulating materials. SCLENDS libraries share a single catalog, which means that patrons can search for items at any of the libraries as easily as they search for items at their home library.

Each year we celebrate reading and welcome more than 2,000 students to downtown Columbia for the Read-In. We are proud sponsors of the event along with the South Carolina Association of School Librarians.
