The South Carolina Library Association named Richland County Public Library's Executive Director Melanie Huggins as the 2012 South Carolina Outstanding Librarian at the end of October.

The South Carolina Department of Revenue and the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs, have partnered with the State Library to offer educational webinars designed to inform the public on how to enroll in credit monitoring and learn more about how to minimize the effects of a security breach. This is a recorded session you are now able to watch on the South Carolina State Library's YouTube channel.

The Greenville County Public Library has been awarded the 2012 InnoVision Community Service Award. The InnoVision program honors achievements of businesses, educational institutions and governmental entities in South Carolina's Upstate and Greater Midlands regions.

The S.C. Department of Revenue recently announced that approximately 3.6 million Social Security numbers and 387,000 credit and debit card numbers have been exposed in a cyber attack. Of the credit cards, the vast majority are protected by strong encryption deemed sufficient under the demanding credit card industry standards to protect the data and cardholders. Approximately 16,000 are unencrypted.

The Seventh Annual Pee Dee Fiction and Poetry Festival at Francis Marion University will bring to campus four nationally known and bestselling authors on Nov. 8 and 9. The two-day festival will celebrate the works of Todd Boss, Danielle Evans, Nikky Finney and Larry Watson.
