The 2015 South Carolina Book Award Winners were announced this afternoon to attendees at the 40th Annual South Carolina Association of School Librarians conference held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The students of South Carolina have chosen:

To celebrate National Library Week (April 12-18, 2015), the South Carolina State Library will host a literary cake decorating contest. Anyone interested must register online to participate. Participants may submit cakes decorated to represent a character from a favorite book, a favorite children’s book cover, or anything else book-related.

The 2015 Berkeley Reads program aimed at recognizing authors residing in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties will culminate in a Writer’s Workshop finale to be held at Hanahan High School on Saturday, March 28th, 2015.
The Berkeley Reads program, a collaboration between Berkeley County School District and the Berkeley County Library System, will participate in Berkeley Writes, a writer’s contest to be judged by Lowcountry authors. Finalists will have a writing session with Bret Lott, Nicole Seitz, or Christi Sanford that morning from 9am to 11am.
The South Carolina Digital State Documents Depository provides access to publications produced by state agencies and state-supported academic institutions. These publications provide citizens with crucial information about state government, including statistics, annual accountability reports, and data on a wide variety of topics related to the state.

Though Hartsville, South Carolina is a small town, far from big city “drop out factories,” its 7,500 residents must still contend with the urgent demand for reform in American public schools.
