Elizabeth J. McNeer Storytelling Festival

Join the Allendale-Hampton-Jasper Library System for the Elizabeth J. McNeer Storytelling Festival on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Pratt Library, 451 Wilson Street, Ridgeland, SC.  The library will be host to storytelling for all ages featuring nationally known singer, song writer, storyteller, Kate Campbell & Gullah, Gullah Island Star and SC Storyteller Natalie Daise.  Free to the public!

Today in Government Printing History

Did you know what happened on March 4, 1861? That is the day that the US Government Printing Office opened its doors.  Did you know that the GPO now has a new name?  It is now the Government Publishing Office, to reflect its transforming role of meeting the information needs of Congress, Federal agencies, and the public.  Also on this day in history, Abraham Lincoln was sworn into office as President of the United States on March 4, 1861.

Limestone College Library Challenge Raised $2.13 Million!

Limestone College officials announced that $2,130,210 was recently raised in donations and pledges to meet and exceed a goal to help build a new library on its main campus in Gaffney. In April of 2014, Limestone Trustee William Brown issued a challenge to the school to raise $2 million by December 31 in order to receive an additional $1 million contribution for the library from the Betsy M.

South Caroliniana Library is open

The South Caroliniana Library on the University of South Carolina's historic Horseshoe is open. As a result of moving collections offsite to prepare for renovations, access to materials may be delayed. Please request materials before you visit by contacting the reference staff at 803-777-3132 or sclref@mailbox.sc.edu. The library also has new operating hours: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Teen Tech Week is March 8 – 14, 2015

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technology, especially the types offered through libraries.

Teen Tech Week encourages teens to take advantage of the technology at libraries for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals who can help them achieve greater digital literacy.

Storytelling Festival to be Held April 16-19, 2015

Stone Soup’s New Voices, an inaugural event for 2015, has received a tremendous response! Hear from 16 New Voices from New York to Florida! New faces, new stage! Join in on the fun in Woodruff, SC, on Saturday, April 18, to christen this exciting new event. Help create storytellers!  Stone Soup will also host the Storytelling Liar’s Contest to test your ability to discern fact from fiction, fantasy from reality! Imagine- 8 people vying for the new Stone Soup Storytelling SC Liar’s trophy. What wild tales will we hear?
