Free Classes for State Employees and Librarians

The Library Services Department of the State Library will be offering short classes on a variety of library resources.  These classes are designed to introduce state employees to selected library resources and as continuing education for public and academic librarians in reference service.  Classes meet in the Computer Training Room of the State Library at 1500 Senate Street in Columbia.

Come Garden with Us This Spring at the Dorchester County Library

The Dorchester County Library in St. George and in Summerville will be offering a variety of educational and entertaining programs on gardening this spring. 
 
The Secret Garden Party will take place on March 21 at both branches from 11:00 to 1:00pm.  This program, for school-aged children, includes crafts, snacks and indoor gardening activities. Space is limited and registration begins March 9.  

Annual Read-In to be Held April 16

It’s Read-In 2009 and you’re invited!  The 2009 Read-In, a statewide celebration of reading, will be held at the State House in Columbia on Thursday, April 16, 2009.
 
This exciting event will provide an opportunity for students, librarians, parents and other literacy supporters to demonstrate the importance of reading and the need for library services in our communities.
