Letters About Literature Award Winners Announced
The Letters About Literature program, sponsored by the South Carolina Center for the Book and the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target Stores, is a national reading and writing promotion contest.
Drop-In on April 15!
The South Carolina State Library is celebrating National Library Week by hosting a drop-in for SC State Government employees for an inside look at how the State Library operates. The drop-in will be held on April 15th from 11:00am – 2:00pm at 1500 Senate Street, Columbia. Light refreshments and behind-the-scene tours will be available.
State Library's Center for the Book Awards Nominations Forms Now Available
The South Carolina Center for the Book is pleased to announce the availability of nomination forms for the 2009 awards cycle. Categories include writing (all genres), teaching (all levels), and literary arts advocacy. 2009 Nomination Form - Deadline: May 8, 2009.

Third Annual South Carolina National Library Week Photo Contest
During National Library Week, April 12-18, 2009, South Carolina library staff members will submit a wide range of photographs of library staff members working, researching, teaching, and doing all that library staff members do in a given day.
Library staff members from all types of libraries are encouraged to be creative in taking photos that capture the essence of South Carolina libraries and are visually attractive.
Library Director Wins National Recognition
Drusilla Carter, Director of the Chesterfield County Library System, has been recognized by Library Journal as one of 2009’s Movers and Shakers. This award recognizes individuals who are changing libraries for the better.

Speaker at the Center Cecil Williams to Discuss his Books and Photography
On April 23, 2009, from noon to 1:00 p.m., Cecil Williams, Orangeburg author and photographer will discuss his books and art.
Williams is the author of Orangeburg 1968 which documents one of the least remembered chapters of America's Civil Rights history; the Orangeburg Massacre. On February 8, 1968, over 150 students gathered on the campus of South Carolina State University to protest the segregation policies of the town's only bowling alley.
