Veterans Honored with Quilts of Valor

The South Carolina State Library honors veterans with handmade Quilts of Valor to appreciate their service. In partnership with the S.C. Chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, the library will host a rotating exhibit of the handmade quilts created by hundreds of volunteers from the South Carolina chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Veterans receive these lifetime awards in recognition of their service, sacrifice, and valor.

Quarterly E-Rate Virtual Meeting to be held October 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

Register today for the upcoming virtual E-Rate meeting! This quarterly meeting will provide schools and libraries with an additional opportunity to learn what products and services are E-Rate eligible, how to apply for E-Rate eligible products, and services and meet the numerous compliance requirements. With increased awareness of the application processes of E-Rate and available assistance for completing applications, South Carolina school districts and library systems can increase their E-Rate participation. 

Celebrated Author Empowers Students to Use Art to Promote Kindness

In response to winning the 2018 Association for Library Service to Children Maureen Hayes- Author/Illustrator Visit Award, the South Carolina State Library welcomed author and illustrator Kathryn Otoshi to the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. Otoshi is known for several acclaimed books including Zero, One, Two, Beautiful Hands and Draw a Line.

Noted historian, author to judge annual state high school writing contest

Deadline for students to submit entries is Oct. 26.

Walter Edgar, one of South Carolina’s most-noted historians, will judge the sixth annual South Carolina High School Writing Contest. An author, editor, public radio host, and professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina, Edgar joins a distinguished group of South Carolina writers who’ve judged the works of high school students across the state.
