The Letters About Literature program, sponsored by the South Carolina Center for the Book and the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target Stores, is a national reading and writing promotion contest.

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) announced the winners of the 2012 Teen Video Challenge. The Teen Video Challenge is a national competition for teens to get involved with reading and their public library's summer reading program. Winning videos were selected at the state level to be recognized as an official CSLP Teen Video Challenge winner for 2012.

The newly formed South Carolina Freegal Consortium has joined Library Ideas' network of Public Library websites that offer access to songs from Sony Music's catalog of legendary artists.

The service will allow the four South Carolina Public Libraries to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering access to over 3.3 million songs.

The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announces, in cooperation with ALA President Molly Raphael and ALA President-Elect Maureen Sullivan, that the South Carolina Library Association (SCLA) is the recipient of the 2012 ALA Presidential Award for Advocacy, sponsored by ALTAFF.

The South Carolina State Library will announce the selection of the most notable 2011 South Carolina State Government Documents at a ceremony to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7. The selection is announced annually in honor of Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.
