South Carolina Freegal™ Consortium to Offer Downloadable Music from Library Websites

The newly formed South Carolina Freegal Consortium has joined Library Ideas' network of Public Library websites that offer access to songs from Sony Music's catalog of legendary artists.

The service will allow the four South Carolina Public Libraries to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering access to over 3.3 million songs.

The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announces, in cooperation with ALA President Molly Raphael and ALA President-Elect Maureen Sullivan, that the South Carolina Library Association (SCLA) is the recipient of the 2012 ALA Presidential Award for Advocacy, sponsored by ALTAFF.

State Library to Announce 2011 Notable State Documents at Ceremony

The South Carolina State Library will announce the selection of the most notable 2011 South Carolina State Government Documents at a ceremony to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7. The selection is announced annually in honor of Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.
