The Taipei Cultural and Economic Office in Atlanta, Georgia and the Sumter County Library present the 2011 Taiwanese Film and Photography Festival. Exquisite Taiwanese photography will be displayed throughout the Main Meeting Room of the Main Library. Four Taiwanese films will be presented during September and October.

StudySC, which is a program of the SC State Library, now features South Carolina government information for Elementary, Middle, and High School!

The South Carolina State Library along with other state and local agencies will be hosting the Catawba Region Job & Education Fair at the Fort Lawn Community Center at 5554 Main Street in Fort Lawn, SC on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Clayton Copeland is a doctoral candidate in the School of Library & Information Science at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Samantha Hastings is the chair of her dissertation committee.

Congratulations to Carmella Broome!

Ms. Broome is a local author and a longtime member of the Talking Books Services. She is the author of Carmella's Quest: Taking on College Sight Unseen .

Ms. Broome is this year's recipient of the American Council of the Blind's national Ned E. Freeman Award for Excellence in Writing for her article, "In My Own Voice: The Carmella's Quest Collaboration". It was published in the March issue of the ACB Braille Forum.

The Board of Trustees of the Union County Carnegie Library is pleased to announce Benjamin D. Loftis as interim library director. Mr. Loftis began duties as interim library director on June 11, 2011.

The Marion County Library Board of Trustees has named Philip Alan Smith as the new director for Marion County libraries. He replaces library director Salley Berry Davidson who retired June 30 after twenty years of service to the county and its citizens.

The Board of Trustees of the Chesterfield County Library System is pleased to announce Brenda Branson as new director. Mrs. Branson will begin her tenure as Library Director on August 1, 2011. Her previous experience includes being a head librarian in various school districts and as a reader services librarian at Batesburg-Leesville Public Library.
