State Library Staff Member Named Library Journal 2010 Mover & Shaker

Denise Lyons is an advocate for family literacy and has just been named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker for 2010. She spearheaded the South Carolina Day by Day Family Literacy Calendar and is reaching families statewide to promote the importance of literacy. The calendar is designed to be a tool that families, caregivers, educators and librarians can use at home and in the classroom to further develop early literacy skills that help young children become prepared for school or do better in school.

State Library Partners with LYRASIS on Statewide Job Seekers Collection

LYRASIS recently announced a collaboration with the South Carolina State Library and Discus, South Carolina's Virtual Library, to provide a customized online collection of current resources for job seekers in the state. The partnership is creating a collection, using the OCLC NetLibrary ® eContent platform, of more than 250 electronic books for career and job seekers.

State Library to Announce 2009 Notable State Documents at Ceremony

The South Carolina State Library will announce the selection of the most notable 2009 South Carolina state government documents at a ceremony to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16. The selection is announced annually on or near Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.
